David Cay’s Message - COME DEEPER.

Thought:

We want to be the superheroes, not the guy screaming when he sees the alien!

Illustration: Gymnastics

“When I was in junior high gym, I had to do a routine on the beam. What was I supposed to do on that? When we’re doing something we’re not familiar with, we wanna be as safe as possible!”

  • Sometimes, as Christians, we want to be as comfortable as possible

Illustration: Adventure Movie

“Adventure movies always have a protagonist facing a crisis. The movie has ups and downs, it doesn’t stay the same.”

  • So what do you think God is saying when we are just comfortable in our Christian walk?
  • Matthew 25:14-30
  • God entrusted us with gifts and talents and some of us are sitting here doing nothing with what He’s given us. :(

REMEMBER: Being a Christian does not have an on and off switch, nor is it a once a week life aspect.

  • The Christian life doesn’t just happen when you’re alone or when you’re at church. It continues onto wherever your friends are at. You’re supposed to help people, respond to adversity and have conversations about JESUS
  • Don’t waste your life; don’t bar yourself in like there’s zombies outside.

Illustration: Kiddie Pool vs. the Deep End

  • The kiddie pool is safe and shallow and the deep end has waves
  • A lot of us are in the kiddie pool, but what God is saying is “COME DEEPER”. Even though there’s more dangers in the deep end, that’s where the adventure is.
  • We have been in the kiddie pool for too long; kiddie pool = boring Christian life

His love never fails—it never gives up.

This is what the Lord says:

Cursed is the one who trusts in man,
who draws strength from mere flesh
and whose heart turns away from the Lord.
That person will be like a bush in the wastelands;
they will not see prosperity when it comes.
They will dwell in the parched places of the desert,
in a salt land where no one lives.

This might be harsh, but I can’t help but tell the truth. Sorry girls, but the truth is that getting a boyfriend won’t cure your rollercoaster of emotions. If you keep on trying to find your worth, security, and happiness in a guy, you will be disappointed. I’m not saying, “Hey, become a nun!”, but I want to let you know that there’s no one out there who can be your saviour better than our Saviour Jesus himself.

You can’t deny that we all as human beings crave a cure for abandonment and loneliness. We want someone who will love us no matter what we do and someone who will never disappoint us. God gave us these desires with the hope that we’ll run into his arms first—not into someone else’s.

Sure, we can strive for that momentary thrill and those fluttery feelings of being with a guy. Pretty soon, though, that thrill passes away. Sure, we can temporarily store up our expectations in a person, whether it be your boyfriend, friends, anyone! But you will be disappointed along the way. There is no one on this earth who can give you unfailing love.

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord,
whose confidence is in him.
They will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes;
its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit.”

- Jeremiah 17:5-8

 There is a God who never changes. He’s our only strong foundation, our only Rock, our only fortress. God has picked someone who will bring you closer to Him. Wait upon the Lord! In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. His love never fails.
